Chatom is a town in Washington County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in 1949. Chatom is the county seat of Washington County, holding the distinction since 1907. The town's population was 1,288 At the 2010 census, up from 1,193 in 2000.
Chatom is located at 31°27′42″N 88°14′53″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 10.9 square miles (28 km2), all land.
At the 2000 census there were 1,193 people, 449 households, and 308 families living in the town. The population density was 109.7 people per square mile (42.3/km2). There were 523 housing units at an average density of 48.1 per square mile (18.6/km2). The ethnic makeup of the town was 67.23% White, 32.10% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.08% from other races, and 0.17% from two or more races.
