Shark River Hills is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) within Neptune Township, in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. At the 2010 census, the CDP's population was 3,697.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP had a total area of 0.981 square miles (2.540 km2), including 0.891 square miles (2.307 km2) of land and 0.090 square miles (0.232 km2) of water (9.15%).
The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Shark River Hills has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.
There is only one school in Shark River Hills. It is Shark River Hills Elementary School, founded in 1956.
The 2010 United States Census counted 3,697 people, 1,511 households, and 1,065.255 families in the CDP. The population density was 4,149.9 per square mile (1,602.3/km2). There were 1,577 housing units at an average density of 1,770.2 per square mile (683.5/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.51% (3,568) White, 0.89% (33) Black or African American, 0.19% (7) Native American, 1.11% (41) Asian, 0.03% (1) Pacific Islander, 0.54% (20) from other races, and 0.73% (27) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.79% (103) of the population.
The 1,511 households accounted 23.6% with children under the age of 18 living with them; 58.9% were married couples living together; 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% were non-families. Of all households, 22.3% were made up of individuals, and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.89.
In the CDP, the population age was spread out with 18.7% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 23.0% from 25 to 44, 38.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 years of age or older.
