South Roxana is a village in Madison County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,053 at the 2010 census.

Geography

South Roxana is located at 38°49′35″N 90°3′32″W (38.826497, -90.058882).

According to the 2010 census, South Roxana has a total area of 1.591 square miles (4.12 km²), of which 1.52 square miles (3.94 km²) (or 95.54%) is land and 0.071 square miles (0.18 km²) (or 4.46%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,888 people, 707 households, and 518 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,190.0 people per square mile (458.5/km²). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 509.9 per square mile (196.5/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.67% White, 0.32% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.85% of the population.

There were 707 households out of which 38.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% were married couples living together, 15.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.6% were non-families. 20.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the village, the population was spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who were 65 years of age or older.
