Anawalt is a town in McDowell County, West Virginia, United States. At one time it was known as Jeanette. It is named in honor of James White Anawalt, who was then manager of Union Supply Company, a subsidiary of the United States Steel Company. The population was 226 at the 2010 census. Coal mining was the town's chief industry.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.57 square miles (1.48 km2), all of it land.
At the 2010 census there were 226 people, 91 households, and 62 families living in the town. The population density was 396.5 inhabitants per square mile (153.1/km2). There were 135 housing units at an average density of 236.8 per square mile (91.4/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 88.9% White, 9.3% African American, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.4%.
Of the 91 households 31.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.8% were married couples living together, 19.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.6% had a male householder with no wife present, and 31.9% were non-families.
