Rockdale is a village in Will County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,976 at the 2010 census.
Rockdale is located at 41°30′27″N 88°6′55″W (41.507480, -88.115233). It is immediately south of the city of Joliet, and is about 36 miles southwest of Chicago.
According to the 2010 census, Rockdale has a total area of 0.79 square miles (2.05 km2), all land. Rockdale was founded in 1894 by a group of local businessmen.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,888 people, 762 households, and 473 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,377.4 people per square mile (922.7/km2). There were 826 housing units at an average density of 1,040.1 per square mile (403.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 82.89% White, 0.85% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 10.86% from other races, and 4.56% from two or more races.
