According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.14 square miles (2.95 km2), of which 1.08 square miles (2.80 km2) is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 km2) is water. Highway 61 serves as a main route. Nearby places include White Bear Lake, Maplewood, Little Canada, and Vadnais Heights.

The racial makeup of the city was 93.1% White, 5.1% Asian, 1.0% from other races, and 0.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.5% of the population.
