Velva is a city in McHenry County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 1,084 at the 2010 census. Part of the Minot Micropolitan Statistical Area, Velva was founded in 1897.
Velva was settled in 1886 with the arrival of the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad into the area. It was chartered as a city in 1905.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.83 square miles (2.15 km2), all land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,084 people, 452 households and 277 families living in the city. The population density was 1,306.0 inhabitants per square mile (504.2/km2). There were 493 housing units at an average density of 594.0 per square mile (229.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.7% White, 0.4% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races.
