Fairdale is south of Carmichaels on PA 88.

The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.72% White, 0.10% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.05% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.26% of the population.
There were 868 households, out of which 24.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% were non-families. 34.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
