Franklin is a city in Franklin County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,000 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Franklin County.
Franklin was founded in the 1870s. It was named for Benjamin Franklin.
Former Nebraska Governor, Ashton Shallenberger, collapsed and then died a few moments later while giving a speech in Franklin on February 22, 1938.
Franklin is located at 40°5′43″N 98°57′11″W (40.095357, -98.953083). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.99 square miles (2.56 km2), all land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,000 people, 443 households, and 264 families living in the city. The population density was 1,010.1 inhabitants per square mile (390.0/km2). There were 519 housing units at an average density of 524.2 per square mile (202.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.4% White, 0.4% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 0.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.5% of the population.
There were 443 households of which 25.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 40.4% were non-families.
